Hello everyone,

I have been reading a lot of posts on facebook where people got their application returned because IRCC could not confirm their presence in Canada during the time they claimed as a temporary resident for their presence calculation. It seems it is more often then people try to claim days as a visitor rather than student or worker or days on implied status.

Just wondering for those that did use their time as a student or worker and got approved or at least did not get their application returned (and got AOR), did you submit a letter of explanation, your study or work permit in the additional documents ? I would think they would have access to our previous study or work permits so not sure what is the best to do ? I do not want to add extra documents that are not needed and make my application more complex by adding a lot of documents.

Yeah, unlike visitors, student or work statuses are usually very straightforward as far as getting credit for pre-PR days. Just make sure the dates you provide in the citizenship application are precise and match the permits you received in the past, but no need for additional documentation for what IRCC has indeed access to.

For what it's worth, many family members of mine applied for citizenship in the past few years, all had work/student days and applied after a bit more than 2 years of PR, none added any additional doc, and none had any physical presence issue.

Same for me actually, but that was years ago and I applied in october 2017 (when pre-PR days were restaured, and physical presence requirement went from 4 years no pre-PR days to 3 years including those, so I went from not eligible yet to something like 300 days above 1095 overnight!), so my personal experience probably isn't relevant anymore.

Good luck.
