US VISA before PR or after?

Hi,

If everything works out well, I hopefully should get my PR soon like within 6 months. But I want to visit my friends in USA. I was wondering whether applying for US visa in the mean time will be risky, because in case of AP my passport will be held for long and also will I need any other kind of visa after PR for a re-entry.

You can get a US visitor visa within a week from the date of your interview appointment. What is AP ?
