Hello everyone,

I'm new here, and we are new to this process! Thank you in advance for your help.

I'm a Canadian citizen, and I married a US citizen. I obtained my US permanent residency last August. Several things beyond our control have happened as of late, and we are considering going back to Canada. I can't sponsor him from the US, correct? Does that mean I would have to go back to Canada, and live without him, while I filed the sponsorship paperwork?

We are just investigating our options, so any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

As a Canadian citizen, you can sponsor your spouse while living outside of Canada (only PRs can't). So no - you don't have to return and live without him. However you must include proof in your application that you plan to return to Canada (and make Canada your home) once your spouse's PR has been approved.
