Hi, my WP expired in September,2012 and I filed for my extension before the expiry of the WP. The extension process is ongoing but I already have more than 2 yrs of candian work exp. Can I go ahead and file for my PR while my WP extension is going on?

Correction: You have implied status which basically confers the same legal status as your old work permit. Check with the call centre whether you can apply with implied status.

My employer told me that I am still legally eligible to work while my WP extension is under process. So, I am assuming it is legal to apply for PR as well since my status is documented. But, I will check with the call center.

Hello,

We have applied PR in 'Implied' status ( just applied)only. We had sent our expired WP document and a letter from lawyer ( employer Lawyer who filed WP extension for me) saying that my status is 'Implied' as they have applied for my WP extension. I also got a confirmation from some other person who applied PR in Implied status and got his AOR in this forum. But, you can definitely call call center and double confirm . Please update us also. Thx, IMMI

You can apply. The two are not dependant on each other. You have legal status so you don't have to wait until the work permit is renewed. It's actually better you apply as early as possible (given that you are eligible) as that will cause less problems down the road when you are waiting for your PR.
