Scylla am in the same situation. I am yet to do the landing, CIC has my passport. But I would need to travel to Europe in march. Can I leave after i do my landing? My passport still has my work permit which is valid until end of august.

The work permit will be canceled once you land. Unless you're visa exempt, you will need a PR card or travel document to return.

The immigrant Visa is there along with COPR, which allow the travel to India and landing.

Once we land in Canada , Work Permit gets cancelled , which is perfect. So the landing happens on return to Canada .

Is you IMM1000 landing paper not a travel document?

IM-1 visa is a travel document to enter Canada.

it will be stamped on the passport , when u get ur COPR papers.

what is the expiry date we get on PR visa? which stamped on our passport, likely means you have to do landing within that date

No! it does NOT mean you can leave the country and travel before you get your PR card.

NOPE!
as far as i know, PR visa is a single-entry-visa.
after landing, you either need a PR card or a travel document.

Hello,

I just did my landing on the 15th. Let me clear up some confusion here.

1. The COPR document is good for travel back and forth by ROAD only!!, more specifically when entering Canada by car only. Not by Plane or Bus. So no, you wont be able to use that document to come back from India. But, yes, you can use it to go to USA and back, by car, after landing.

2. The "Immigration" visa is single entry and will be crossed out when you do your landing. So can't be used for subsequent visits.

You said you are only going to India for 2-3 weeks, so why not do the landing when you come back? Instead of doing it now. If do it now, you will need a visa to enter the country again.

Another option, if you have US visa, is that you do your landing now, through US-CAN border. Then go to India. However, when you come back from India, you arrive in the US. Then drive to Canada. (you will either have to rent a car or may be leave your car in the US before you leave)
