I am applying for my common-law partner to get her PR and an open work permit (OWP). I have two questions that I appreciate if someone could answer:

- On the page here it says: "Put the sponsorship, permanent residence and open work permit applications into one envelope.". I get the open work permit application part. However, does this mean that there are two separate applications for sponsorship and permanent residence? I had the impression that the sponsorship application is automatically a PR application. Please correct me if this is not the case.

- To apply for open work permit I am not sure what to choose on question 3 of the IMM5710. My common-law partner is currently residing in Canada and is working with a work permit under working holiday (international experience Canada). Her current work permit is gonna expire in a couple of month and this is why we want to apply to get an open work permit.
The options in for the question are:
- Apply for a work permit with the same employer
- Apply for a work permit for the first time with a new employer
- Restore my status as a worker
- Get a new temporary residence permit (for inadmissible applicants only)

Thanks in advance!

1. Inland common-law partner sponsorship for PR + OWP application.......these are 2 different applications that need to be sent in the same envelope.....keep all the documents for OWP together......keep all the documents for Inland common-law partner sponsorship for PR together.....place the OWP documents on top of the Inland sponsorship for PR documents and put them all into one envelope and mail or courier to IRCC.

select - Apply for a work permit for the first time with a new employer

Thanks Wakki. Regarding the 2nd question, can you explain why you think option 2 is the right answer? Please note that, as I mentioned above, my common-law partner already has a temporary status (work permit under working holiday program) and is employed and working legally in Canada. Moreover, it is noted in here that "the SCLPC class applicant has valid temporary resident status (as a visitor, student or worker), or is eligible to restore their temporary resident status, and has submitted the restoration application with their application for permanent residence" is one of the cases that meets OWP requirements.
This makes me doubt whether for my case I need to 'Restore status as a worker' and 'Apply for a work permit with the same employer'. I may be understanding these incorrectly and in fact your answer was my first choice too, however it can help a lot if you could explain your view a bit more.

Thanks again!

IRCC is referring to the sponsor portion and the applicant portions of the one application, not separate apps. They are just stupid in how they word it.

Option 1 is for people who have closed work permits limited to one employer.

Option 3 is for people who are in Canada illegally.

Thanks a lot @canuck_in_uk. I wish CIC would have explained things in their instructions as clear and brief as you just did.
