Hi All,

A quick question (I need to submit my application in less than 48 hours as my ITA expires in 2 days):

I worked for an employer (agency) outside the Canada and during this time I opened my own company, implying that I was paid in full without tax deduction - I was responsible to declare and pay my tax.

I am applying submitting my application under CEC, using both Canadian and foreign work experiences.

Reading the below, I was just wondering if anyone knows if this only applies to self employment in Canad?

The Canadian Experience Class is for people who already have skilled work experience in Canada.
You are not eligible for permanent residence under the Canadian Experience Class if you gained your work experience:
  • while you were self-employed, or ....

Any urgent help for clarification will be greatly appreciated!

You cannot count any self-employment as "Canadian experience." Obviously working for an employer outside of Canada does not count either. Not sure if you're asking whether you can use this as foreign work experience or not (yes).

Thanks @jes_ON.

Yeah, I know CEC must be Canadian experience (but I'm using experience acquired before I got to Canada too - so the work experience (self employment) I was talking about was before I got to Canada. So, I guess it will be 'foreign work experience' - which I know is allowed under FSWP.

More context:

Acquired work experience in Canada between 2015 - present, BUT
Worked between 2012 and 2013 before arriving Canada - for this work, I was employed by a company but later opened my own company for the same job I did for this company.

I am submitting my application under CEC, for which I got an ITA for.

If you're asking "Can foreign self-employment experience be used for CRS points if I am eligible for CEC?".... then, yes. Please be sure to check the extra documentation requirements for self-employment (under "Proof of work experience")

Thanks once again @jes_ON

A big relief! I'll go ahead and submit my application now. Thanks so so much for that link - really very helpful for extra info....
