I have recently received Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) and will be landing in Toronto in July 2013 with family for starting the processing of PR card etc. We will be staying in Toronto for only 1 month before returning back to our home country.

The CIC website gives us option of applying for urgent processing of PR card if we need to travle outside Canada soon after landing. Pl see the following link.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-urgent-processing.asp

Is there any problem in applying for urgent processing of PR card using this option at the time of landing in Canada?

Can you kindly suggest any other alternatives?

Thanks a lot.

Re: Urgent Processing of PR card

You don't qualify for urgent processing.

Urgent processing is only available for those who are already permanent residents and are renewing their PR cards. Urgent processing is not available for new immigrants.

Since you are a new immigrant, there is no alternative to waiting.

Re: Urgent Processing of PR card

Dear Scylla

Thank you for your reply, but with due respect I would like to draw your attention towards the following links that show that this urgent processing is applicable for new immigrants also

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-urgent-processing.asp

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-urgent-processing-not-submitted.asp

Kindly note on the left side menu that all this inf is under "New Immigrants" menu.

Can you please refer me to any link saying that this available only for existing immigrants?

Can any other senior comment on this issue?

Thanks

Scylla is correct, there is no urgent processing for the initial PR card at "landing".

I would suggest that you apply under normal process at the time of landing (not to make the situation complex for yourself) and later may be next day or few days later you can apply for switching from normal process to urgent..

There is no application process at the time of landing.

Thanks for the information Scylla, if that is the case, then I think he can directly try for urgent processing, at the max they will say that is is not eligible for urgent processing, hence process under normal.. so I think its good to try atleast..

There is zero chance of success since urgent processing is only available for renewals. So I don't think it's worth trying. I think it's a waste of time and money.

But if someone wants to waste their time and money - it's certainly their choice.
