Hello senior members I am preparing to apply through CEC in February but confused about PCC. Should I get it done from India or Indian consulate here in Toronto? I can have one issued in India but just curious if the officer can raise any questions about me staying in canada while getting it issued in India? Please reply with your comments.

Thanks
Deep

Just depends on which ever is the easier / faster way for you.

I'd go with the choice that takes the least amount of processing time. You can read up on other members discussing the process of getting a PCC from Indian Consulate in Canada and estimate how long it'll take for you to hear back from them.

If you have 5 to 6 weeks time to apply for PR then apply here ASAP otherwise get it from India. Its same thing. I got after 6 weeks exactly last weeks, for some persons its takes more than 8 weeks, so it your choice. Good luck

Wow, 6 weeks is pretty good! Like you said, I've heard others didn't get their PCC until 9-10 weeks!

Yeah i got in 5 weeks, I got yesterday

As long as it doesn't matter then I should be fine. But now I am confused if there is any different kind of PCC? I mean I read somewhere online whether it should be issued from Commissioner's Office or Passport Office. I am not sure which one we need for immigration. I am literally running out of time because my work permit is expiring soon and I have to apply by the end of February.

Below is the information from CIC link (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/asia-pacific/india.asp):

How and where do I obtain one?

Local Requests

For districts other than the Punjab:
Applicants should contact the local Senior Superintendent of Police/ Superintendent of Police/ Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Additional Commissioner of Police, or the Station House Officer (Police clearance certificate issued by the Regional Passport Office are also acceptable.

For residents of the Punjab:
Only the Senior Superintendent of Police or the Regional Passport Office may sign a Police Clearance Certificate.

Non-Resident Requests
Applicants should contact the Indian embassy or consulate.

Regards

They don't have a PCC specifically for immigration purposes.

This is actually incorrect, it depends on the country. For example, the required UK PCC is specifically for immigration.

Just follow the link and you will be fine. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/index.asp

I should have been more clear, the comment was meant for him and his country of origin (Indian Citizens), I wasn't talking about in general.

Get it from CGI. It's comparatively faster and is accepted by CIC.

I got mine in 3-4 weeks. Generally it takes around 6 weeks. Also, pls be informed that DOB proof issued by CGI is not accepted by CIC. Better you get an affidavit done instead.

I know it usually takes 4-6 weeks to get it done from CGI here but my dad got mine done from India in 3 days and its already on its way here. So as long at it doesn't matter where I got it from I should be fine. Thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it. I will have more questions coming your way in next couple of weeks

Cheers
