Ok so my husband and I are in a very unfortunate predicament. We are still waiting on marriage certificate to submit for his second extension and PR! They told us it may take 30 days. I even explained that we needed a rush on our certificate:( We are growing increasingly worried because his status expires May 13th! Sad if our certificate doesn't arrive in time how are we to prove to cic that we are married? The only thing we have now s our marriage licence. Could I send wedding ceremony pics with extension? Anything please? And as far as the pr application we do not have all the documents especially the marriage certificate . Can anyone explain to me how i can have my husband stay with me during the pr process? UI have receipts that we paid last year in September for pr. Will they think we are taking too long to apply? Really scared and just want this to go smoothly as possible.also we want to apply inland for PR because of course I wand my husband to remain with me here until his pr is approved. I have support letters from family on both sides to help him financially etc I am also supporting him as well. We live rent free in my mothers residence. We have a joint bank account. Is there anything else we can prove to make a successful extension again? Also regarding the pr application. Do we send everything at once or can we send in parts. Would they allow us to send our marriage certificate later? Sorry for all the questions .... Extremely anxious:(

Regarding the visa extension: while CIC states that you "should" apply within 30 days of your status expiration, the truth is that you can apply the day before or the day of your status expiring, so he could wait for the marriage certificate to arrive and apply on or just before May 13th.

And it's not the end of the world if he even goes over. CIC allows a person to apply for a "restoration of status" if the person applies for it within 90 days of their status expiration. It's all online.

And during the time that CIC is processing his extension request, your husband will be on "implied status" until CIC makes their decision.

As for the PR application: I think you should wait for the marriage certificate to arrive, but someone else on this forum may have better advice for you.

I don't see that there's any reason for you to be very anxious. So far it seems all rather straightforward.

Thank you surleplateau, I was under the impression that status should always be kept even with 90 day restoration option. To be honest I would rather submit before the expiry as I'm afraid cic will frown upon it and not to mention the fact we got married right before we would be submitting extension etc. in fact I was told that cic would consider suspicious which of course worries us further:( to make a long story short we extended September of last year. He was accepted on nov 13. They gave my husband until May 13th of course. Now here is what I,m really concerned about. The fact we promised cic that we are getting married soon and applying for Pr. We sent pr receipts as proof etc. now we didn't say exactly when we would marry but I,m assuming they thought immediately? Also all the documents are clearly not ready. we have a honeymoon planned for the summer which of course our application will require pics of that.... Omg I'm sorry if I'm rambling. I just need to know what to do here. Scared to death:(

Valkyrie, I needed to extend my visitor status as well, although my application for PR is in and my husband has been approved to sponsor. I did my application online and although I was told it would take 40 days Within about 2 weeks I got an email stating it was approved and a couple weeks later I got the paperwork in the mail. The rule of thumb is 30 days but as long as you submit the extension application and pay for it before your husband is out of status you will be fine.

I do not know what country your husband is from but I would suggest you not do an inland application. Inland applications are taking at least 27 months start to finish, according to their website and it has been getting longer all the time. Your husband can stay in Canada, as long as he gets extension on his visitor status, throughout the process. We first applied for me last spring as inland thinking it was the right way to go, I am from the USA, but after 4 months they sent the entire application back saying it was not complete, which is was! so they wasted more than 4 months of our time for no reason. When we resubmitted we did outland my husband was approved 2 months into it and now we are waiting for my approval, it has been 3 1/2 months since his approval. The overall timeline for me is at most 18 months doing the outland but it could be far less. My suggestion is to figure out which Visa Office would handle the application and see if the time line is less than the 27 months if it is go with outland. Again your husband can stay in Canada as long has he keeps extending his Visitor Status. It is easy enough to get the extension, once you have applied for PR it is pretty much going to be a for sure extension at that point.... just my opinion on what you might want to consider doing.

Good Luck.

Thanks CMLR, we were going to apply inland as my husband wants to remain here with me during the pr process. He is British so I believe he is visa exempt. I didn't know you could keep extending for the entire PR process. Also our documents are not ready for ex.. Still waiting on marriage certificate. Police record , medical record and much more. This is obviously going to take much more time so do you think cic will grant him longer so we can get our required documents? The only proof we have of intending to apply for pr is of course the paid fee in full. We have all the receipts for this. What can we say in letter to make another successful extension? Thanks again for your help.

Where did u get married ? Where is ur marriage certificate getting processed. Call their office and ask them why is it getting delayed. We applied in Ontario. We made an error in address and they never got back to us. We kept waiting . we were told about it only when we contacted them.

We were married in Newfoundland. I have already called and they told us it could be 30 days before we receive our certificate:( we certainly don't have that much time. Unless there was some other way of proving our marriage or sending them a letter stating why we could not submit certificate. All I know is that we are stressed to the max over this.

Valkyrie, The first time I got an extension we had not yet applied for my PR. We had a letter stating how long I had been here in Canada and that my husband was able to support me. I got a year at that time. This recent time I was able to give the a copy of my husband's approval for sponsorship and I got a 2 year extension. I sure hope I don't need 2 years but I have it in case for any reason I need it. SO Yes, I am pretty sure your husband could keep getting an extension while in the process. I think it helps too that he is from Britain since yes I assume it is a visa exempt country. Also I think you said you would write a letter letting them know you are applying for PR. I did the same thing the first time and I am pretty sure that is why I got a year that time. I was actually at the border coming back through after visiting my family and the border guard went into an office and looked things up took about a half hour came back to me with my extension and asked if I would be able to apply with in the year I told him yes since I had only one thing I needed still to apply and I got it when I was in the USA on that trip. Hope my explanation and experience helps you in some way.

It's probably better to apply OUTLAND. Just maintain his visitor status by extending before it expires, or by leaving/re-entering Canada. An outland app through London visa office will probably take less than 1 year, vs over 2 years for inland.

Make sure you use the OUTLAND application package: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

If you want an idea of processing times if you apply outland via London, then have a look at the spreadsheet linked in my signature.

In addition, if you apply outland, the FAQ linked in my signature will be super useful. GOod luck!

and just an FYI, in case you are looking at the cic website for processing times. it does NOT take a uk citizen 29 months to be approved as pr through the london office. most applicants are approved in less than 1 year. there really is no reason for a british citizen to apply inland at this time. you can be IN canada and apply outland.

My husband and I were in the same predicament. We didn't realize how long it would take to receive our marriage certificate after we were told over the phone. We decided to go in person and plead our case. It worked! They found our file and processed it either the same day or the following day (Can't remember for sure). This was in SK. I'm not sure how far you are to the registries office, but it may not hurt to go in and do the same. Good Luck!

Thank you to everyone that have replied... still a waiting game. And another question as I'm really confused. When we send our permanent residence application do we send the entire package or just the sponsor evaluation first? If not can someone tell me in which how I proceed first? Hopefully we get our certificate in time as that's the only document of proof we will have. No police or Medical done. We have some pics to show we are a genuine couple as well as letters from family and friends to attest to the relationship. I just want to give them as much proof as possible that we are applying for PR ....:(

Documents for pr as of now

Pictures , bank statements , joint bank account proof, letter from my employer,pr receipts ( all)passports, birth certificates. Letters of support from family on both sides to confirm my husband will be helped financially eye if need be... That is all:(

Everything is mailed together:

Sponsor's application and related documents.

Applicant's, well...application and related documents.

Proof of your relationship.

All of this, along with the receipt for the fees ($1040 for one person being sponsored), are sent in one large parcel.

Good luck!

Losing all hope at this point:( we have come to a very unfortunate conclusion that we can't submit pr yet. We do not have certificate of marriage yet( still waiting!) no medical for my husband or police clearance and there is absolutely no way possible to get them as well as submit in time... By May 13th? Not a chance. So the only thing we can do is ask Cic with second extension that we are still intending to apply for pr just waiting on certificate of marriage. Police record and medical.the proof we have of intention of applying are the receipts from pr fee paid in full last September.inwas hoping we didn't have to submit every document at first as we obviously need more time.... Sorry I'm rambling but I just see no silver lining at this rate...:'(
