Hello all,

I'm in the process of renewing my P.R. card,

What happen if a Sponsorship Breakdown after the undertaking period (3 yesar for me), can I renew my permanent resident card? I will lose my P.R. Card?

To be more detailed: I arrived in Canada in 2009, at the time I was in a common-law relationship sponsored by my partner and now I'm renewing my P.R. card.
Unfortunately after 4 year the relationship ended.

If the answer is yes......…. what do I need to indicate (IMM5444E) about my current marital status? The options are: never married, married, widowed, legally separated, divorced and common-law. No one seems to apply at my specific case. I wasn’t married, I’m not legally separated, divorced or never married. It is just enough to put an N/A?

Many thanks for any insight to this.

In 2012, some new rules came into effect stating that a sponsored spouse needs to stay with their sponsor for 2 years or they may lose their PR. However, that doesn't apply to people who applied and got their PR before 2012 so you have nothing to worry about.

Since you are currently not in a common law relationship and you were never married, you should list your status as never married.

Thank you for responding to my questions so quickly. Leon.......you have been very helpful.
