Hi, I am planning to sponsor my mother to Canada this year 2022, and I have a question regarding how to calculate the family size in the past 3 years.

Note:
1. My mother got divorced from my father in the year 2021
2. My parents don't have any dependent children
3. I got married in the year 2022
4. We don't have any children yet
5. My wife is not planning to co-sign in the application

The main question is: should I include my father in 2019/2020?

Option 1: Doesn't include my father
2019: 2 = (myself + my mother)
2020: 2 = (myself + my mother)
2021: 2 = (myself + my mother)

Option 2: Doesn't include my father
2019: 3 = (myself + my mother + my father)
2020: 3 = (myself + my mother + my father)
2021: 2 = (myself + my mother)

Please let me know which calculation is correct.

Hopefully the program is announced and your mother is selected in the lottery. Since the program is oversubscribed by tens of thousands every year, some people are never selected or wait years.

To be on the safe side, you should include your parents for all years since they only got divorced in 2021 (which would count).
