Hi There,

I’m currently in a tight situation I came to Canada in april 2018 on study permit I did one year PG course and also got a Post graduation work permit and husband is on dependent open work permit. We both have B level jobs and I had applied for PR back in July 2019 and we are still waiting for an update as my points are at 465 and the current pool rate is 470 plus. My PGWP will expire in 3 months and I will need more time to do something to increase my score. I know I cannot extend my work permit but can I apply for a study permit and take up another 1 year course ? So I get some time to remain in Canada to try my luck with PR also if I can will I be able to get a work permit once I finish my studies ???please someone help me

You won't qualify for another PGWP. You can only get one PGWP in a lifetime.

Thank you for responding. Ok I get that because we qualify for PGWP only once. But can I still apply for a study permit so atleast I get a year to up my CRS scores by then ???

You can certainly try for another study permit. That will not allow you or your partner to work past when your PGWP and SOWP expires.

That should be ok . I’m confident to boost up my scores if I get extra time so if I’m able to stay in study permit for year I could up my scores rewriting my IELTS. But will my partner be able to work while I’m studying ?

Never any guarantees that a spouse of an international student will get an SOWP. Would apply ASAP to hope to get an answer before his SOWP expires so at least he can keep working

Omg that would be bad. I will try and apply for a study permit soon and post my updates here ... thank you for your help
