Hello All,

My name is Mohammed from Iraq, Baghdad. I am a high school graduate from United World College of Hong Kong. I have got accepted into university in Canada [Trent University] and applied for the visa [Study permit] [Undergraduate] but got refused twice. [PAPER BASED THROUGH VFS IN Iraq, Erbil]

*I have studied International Baccalaureate in UWC Hong Kong. And got accepted for Psychology course in Trent University Canada.

First rejection reasons were:

1- purpose of visit
2- employment prospects in country of residence
3- personal assets and financial status.

On my first application, I did not submit a bank statement so I guess its fair to get refused. Therefore on my second application, I have submitted a bank statement, personal asset document and a personal letter of explanation to convince the officer that I am not going to stay in Canada but yet got the second rejection

2nd time refusal reason was:
1- purpose of visit.

I want to apply on third time and this time will apply online so I have several quesitons:

1- How to convince the officer that I am not going to stay?
2- What are the chances that I can get accepted?
3- Does apply online can change anything?
4- Will applying online make the process faster?
5- Is there anyone who got accepted after second rejection?
6- Is there any chance that it is a matter of racism? My name is Mohammed, From Iraq and Muslim.

I really really need your help guys because ASAP as I want to submit my next application soon [School start on the 12th of September]. I have to submit a stronger case so that the officer will be convinced and guarantee the visa.

You're from a country with a higher rate of refugee claims for those with temporary visas. This means it's more difficult to get a study permit approved.

What evidence did you provide in your applications to show that you have strong ties to your home country and have no plans on remaining in Canada long term?

Applying online won't change anything and it's impossible for any of us to say what your chances are of being approved. The best option would be to hold off applying for a third time and first order your GCMS notes to see the detailed reasons behind the refusal.

EDIT: Just to add - what did you study in Hong Kong and what level of study are you going to be taking up at Trent?

I can understand its related to where I come from but I know plenty of others who got their visa accepted to Canada from Iraq. And I am not going as a tourist. Just want to study there. I provided a verification of personal asset (A house) and also a letter of explanation (something similar to SOP).

I have studied International Baccalaureate in Hong Kong (11th and 12th Grade) in an international school. My level of study in Trent will be (Undergraduate) and the course I selected is Psychology.

How can I order my GCMS notes? and how long will it take?

Also thank you so much for replying this fast!

I realize you're not coming as a tourist. Temporary visas include tourist visas, work permits and study permits.

GCMS notes take 30 days to arrive. It would mean deferring your studies to the next semester. After two refusals, it is not recommended that you apply immediately again without ordering your GCMS notes - this is the only way you will have a full understanding of the reasons behind the refusal so that you can try to address these issues in your next application. The 'purpose of visit' refusal reason can mean many different things.
