Hi, I’m a masters in Chemical engineering student. I want to take a medical leave starting september 1 till end of december 2019. I started my masters in chemical engineering (course based) and transferred to masters in chemical engineering (thesis based) last year. I already took a medical leave 16 months ago; and now unfortunately I might take another one. Can I do this? Is this legal and okay? I am afraid that when i want to extend my study permit, they might tell me you are not doing a progress in your education so they won’t extend it. Plz let me know if this looks fine or not.

It's really impossible for any of us to say for certain. How your application will be treated will be up to the visa officer. You should make sure you obtain an official leave letter from your university. Also, when you apply for the extension, you should make sure you include notes from doctors / hospitalization records to support why you needed to take medical leave.

I have all documents. But I’m afraid they might consider it as not a reasonable progress to get a degree. But the thing is that im not withdrawing from a program or failing it, im just taking a term off and then my studies will continue normally. Usually not making a reasonable progress means failing/withdrawing from a program and applying for a new program (couple of times)?
