That was my first thought.
I'm mostly panicking because I have no idea how long it will take for the document to get here.
And say it takes 2 weeks? Then I have to book a flight for like the next day basically???
Or submit another request for extension.
:/
It'd be nice to hear from someone who applied online as well and what the validity date actually means. The date I need to leave on or the date it starts on...?

to me, validity date means the day it starts - the day it becomes valid. i agree, try calling CIC tomorrow to see if they can tell you for sure.

I just got my extension and I also applied online. It will not take 2 weeks to arrive! 2-3 days, done! that's why I am suggesting to check the document, but calling CIC also is a good idea.

Your advice is usually pretty sound. I definitely will call them tomorrow.. just.. what number do I call? On CIC's website on the contact us page it makes it seem like you can only call if you have a permanent resident application submitted....

That's good to know!! Sucks tomorrow is Friday so that means mail tomorrow but then no mail til Monday. UGH!

I think I'm the one who screwed this all up.
I got confused on one of the questions and the guide did not clarify, it just repeated what the question already asked.

It was the question about "How long do you plan to stay". I took that as.. how long do you plan to stay right now, on your current trip. Because I'm not planning to stay longer unless CIC grants me a longer time.
So I put the date I am suppose to leave on my current stay on my passport. BUT in my letter of explanation I told them I was unsure of the question and that I want to stay longer than the date indicated to apply for PR and wait out the process with my husband.

Calling them soon and if they in fact did not even extend my stay (technically I was approved but the date is the date I was already meant to leave on according to my passport), I will apply for another extension. Except it won't be 30 days before since June 8th is 2 weeks away.

*sigh* If something can go wrong.. it will go wrong. Hahah..

take a deep breath, put on your favorite song and dance around the room! it will all work out as it should!!! IF there was a mistake, just chalk it up to lesson learned. Perhaps they will be able to fix it for you, and if not... do what you can to fix it. I don't *think* the 30 days is a hard rule. I think it's a suggestion just to ensure people don't overstay in case it takes longer to process the request, and people don't seek extensions the day before they are suppose to leave to try to abuse the system. Remember, you have implied status until you get a decision on your extension. if the concern is the return ticket, perhaps there are some refundable ones out there, or something you will be able to change the date of with minimal cost?! GOOD LUCK... let us know what happens!

Yeah I have a "happy songs" playlist I frequent... hahah :)

Yeah I am learning a lot and I hope I can help others avoid any mistakes I have made and any future ones I will make. lol
Yes, thank goodness for the implied status while the application for extension is in process!!

Curious though.. if an extension IS denied.. I assume they don't say ok, leave today, immediately. I'm curious how long they give you to leave Canada..

And I will definitely let everyone know what happens and teach everyone a lesson from my mistake! haha

You should leave within 30 days.

Thanks Scylla!!!

Uh, totally off topic but I've always been curious if your username has anything to do with Prison Break? Cause that's all I think of when you post :P lol

Nope - nothing to do with that. It's take from ancient Greek mythology.

Maybe that was the problem, I don't know, but for that question I write my current visa expire date + 1 year. (I got 6 months)
When are you planning to apply to the sponsorship? Because my other guess is that they didn't want to give you so much time before you apply. I got my first extension before I applied right at the border, and the officer gave me two months just to send in my sponsorship app.
So... Maybe you can try again, and ask for more (this time one year) extension. And it's better if you send a paper application, this way you get almost two months on implied status. And remember, they ask/advise you, to apply 30 days prior your expiration day, but you are okay, and with legal status if they receive your extension app one day before your current expire.
Good luck!

Then the officer did just what you requested - validity up to June 8th. It does not appear you stated how much longer you wanted to stay. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the time between issuance and expiration is called the "validity date". So in your case, it is valid until June 8th. It came into effect on the date the document was signed/issued (probably same date you got the notification).

Hopefully, it's not a problem if you have to re-apply within a week or two of receiving the document.

I think I'd get too anxious sending in a paper app.

We are planning to submit sponsorship in June. Need to set up a medical and most importantly waiting to hear back from the FBI.
Since this extension was a flop, I will apply ago for an extension, this time just keeping it to why I want to stay and not tell them WHEN we'll be submitting the application for sponsorship. I've read so many people who just said they were in the process of applying for PR and got 6 months- 1 year. Honestly 6 months would be great at least!
We could probably finish all paperwork for sponsorship before June 8th but it all depends on the FBI really...

Yeah I figured I was the one who screwed up. Irks me still as I explained myself in my letter of explanation. -_-
Well... I did get approved for the extension... and I see no reason I wouldn't be apply to apply for another extension.

Called CIC
We all know they sometimes give wrong advice/facts... but he basically said yes, definitely apply again and apply through mail rather than online so I can send more information.
He advised not to send the receipt to show we've paid for Sponsorship/Applicant fee, etc. I have no clue why...
