I need some assistance from someone with experience ; a friend of mine was a landed immigrant in 1993 but has not yet got the PR card , I understand you have 30 days from being landed to get the PR card , was this so in 1993 ?

No one explained this to my freind when they landed back then , is this a problem or can they go and get it now ? they do have the copy of the landing papers and it was an inland application.

no pr cards are "fairly new" since 2002 back then it was landing papers stapled in passport then u automatically became permanet resident n then u can apply for citizenship i landed in 98 and that was my procedure

why are they still PR why not citizen u r eligible after 3 yrs i believe

Thanks for replying, one point is though, when flying back into Canada a few years ago, the border officer took her for questioning and she was told she needed a PR card, can she go and get one now?

before i answer let me check brb

Application Process

[edit] New permanent residents

It is necessary to supply a Canadian residential address at the time of landing. If a Canadian address cannot be supplied at the time, it is necessary to provide one to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) within 180 days. Otherwise a new application for a PR Card will be required, at a cost of $50 to the applicant. Manual applications for permanent residence cards take on average 67 days, compared to 30 days for those applied for at the time of landing.

There is no fee for a PR Card applied for at the time of the landing process.

[edit] Existing permanent residents

Permanent residents as of 28 June 2002 and new permanent residents who did not provide a Canadian residential address, or whose PR Card was lost or stolen, must apply to CIC's processing centre in Sydney, Nova Scotia for a new card. The fee is C$50. In these cases, the PR Card must be collected in person at a CIC office in Canada. [1
