Urgent Assistance! Fiance In India. How can I bring him to Canada?

I am currently living in Canada (as a born citizen) and have been with a man for 4 years who resides in India (Punjab). I travelled there in 2011 and we got engaged in the traditional Sikh way with a ring ceremony. I came back to Canada and we have been surviving the very difficult long distance ever since. His father is NOT in agreeance with our marriage and has since 'forced' (more like severely pressured) into getting engaged and married to a Punjabi girl. It happened last week and I was supposed to come there to marry him August 29th and obtain a marriage certificate so we could show we are legally married and I could apply for sponsership to live with me. Her parents have somehow obtained a fake marriage certificate and are threatening him and causing so much grief and stress for us and my family. How is this possible that they can do the traditional ring ceremony when we were already engaged?? And how is it at all possible for me to apply for his sponsership now? Maybe there is another way he can come here? I am so confused and stressed out if anyone has advice its greatly appreciated!!

In order to sponsor him you must either be married or common law (common law means that you have lived together for a minimum of one full year).

If for some reason you cannot get married, then he could try to qualify to immigrate independently. Information about the various immigration programs available can be found here:

He should focus on the Federal Skilled Worker, Federal Trade and Provincial Nominee programs.
