Hello, I'm an international student currently enrolled in a university in Quebec. I was placed in academic probation/conditional standing for 2 semesters and I was in part-time student status. I have now improved my GPA and I'm back in full-time student status. But one of the eligibility criteria for a post-graduate work permit is that i "maintain continuous full-time study" throughout my program. Does this make me ineligible for a post-graduate work permit? In this case, what would you recommend is the best course of action? Should I discontinue my program and start a different diploma in another college? Are there other ways of getting PR? I still have half the program left but I'm not invested in continuing it if my future in Canada is already over. Does Quebec have any different rules regarding this eligibility criterion for the work permit?

Yes, two part time semesters make you ineligible for a PGWP. Sometimes the PGWP will still be approved even with two part time semesters if someone is really really lucky. However if the officer is following the rules, your PGWP will be refused. Yes, one option would be to stop your current studies and start a brand new program. Once you complete that new program, you will qualify for a PGWP that is the length of your new program. (You won't get any credit for what you completed through your current program.)

The PGWP is issued by IRCC not by the province of Quebec. There are no special rules for Quebec.

Thank you for your response. It's been a long day. From what I have read about the pwgp policy so far it seems to be a grey area and imply a case by case basis ultimately being the decision of the immigration officer. In my case, the period of probation/ part-time status was not voluntary and was mandated by the university. Additionally, I did no work of any sort during this period and focused on my studies to improve my GPA. I'm currently back on full-time status. I'm planning to consult an immigration counsellor/lawyer to see I can make a good case. I have already invested 2 years and a large amount in this degree so I might as well finish it. If you're aware of any cases similar to this please do send me a link if you can. Also could medical reasons be included as i was in a state of severe depression which was what led me down this hole in the first place. :/ Thank you!

Hi there same thing is happening for me now. Only difference is I am in a one year program. I am in probation now. Please share your experience
