Hello,

I received my COPR today and will be landing on Monday. I have been living in Canada for 3 years on a WHP so I already have my SIN, health care, licence etc. I was just wondering if I had to notify any of them that I'm now a PR? I know we get a 9 before our SIN, does that stay there? Or after I land will Canada just do it's thang, so to speak? So close to being done, just want to have my ducks in a row. Thanks!

All I know is you apply for a new SIN right away, and the new one starts with a 4 I believe.

Temporary SIN numbers start with a "9", permanent SIN numbers with a "6". So you have to go to Service Canada to apply for a new one.
You have to inform Health Care that you are a permanent resident now. Your health care expires when your WHP expires.

Funny, Grahin says 4, you say 6, mine is a 5 ....

Apparently the only constant is your temp SIN begins with a 9.

You will need to get a permanent SIN to replace your temporary one. Bring your COPR and such with you and they will issue you a new one, but they will be 'tied' together for taxes and such so you won't have to use the old one as well. Also, if you have a job, update your new SIN with your employer.

The first digit in the SIN tells where the number was issued. 9, as you already know, is non-geographic...

That just means you got them in different provinces :)
