Hi everyone,

I submitted my application for Permanent Residence on January 10th 2016. A few days later I was informed that I passed the medical.

On February 4th 2016, I received the following email:

"Your application has been updated. Please sign in to your MyCIC account and check your application status and messages for more information."

...but after thoroughly checking my messages on MyCIC, I could not find a single new email or any change whatsoever. What does this mean?

I ask because as of today, I haven't had any updates. I know that it can take up to 6 months, but I'm wondering, has anyone heard back in less than 3 months?

I'm now going to apply for Working Holiday Visa as a back-up, I was initially reluctant as I was hoping I might have got my invitation for an interview by now. Does this sound like a good idea?

Cheers :)

You got a ghost email. It means some update was made by CIC/your VO on their end, albeit not one that is necessarily visible to you.

Are you inland or Outland? Which visa office if Outland?

A ghost email? That's a relief, I was worried there was a glitch and I couldn't read or access something that was vitally important.

I suppose I'm outland...I'm from Glasgow, Scotland. It's been 2 months and 11 days since I submitted my application. I guess I was hoping that the maximum of 6 months was actually gonna just be a couple of months in reality. :/ My PR application was air-tight to the point of OCD, I was hoping that would've helped speed it up?

Wait a couple days and check if your BG goes in progress then you might get PPR soon :)

Every time the VO touches your application, be it to make notes on your file or to verify some information you will get a ghost email. Any updates apart from 'Medicals Passed' or 'BG going from 'In Progress' to 'Not Needed at this time' or vice versa may not be visible.

Some people who have completed the process and successfully got PR say 'No news is good news'.

Has any record been set for how quick this process can be? I've been hearing it takes around 4-5 months on average which means I won't hear anything until May-June, but has anyone ever heard in around 3 months?

Thanks for all of the helpful information. :)

There have been applications approved in 2-3 weeks too. IRCC is unpredictable.
