Update on Visa application

I made an online application for student visa from Nigeria, on March 7th 2020 for Fall 2020 session.
Biometric was concluded and medical was on 8th May,2020. I received correspondent letter on 16th July, 2020.
There has not been communication from the embassy since then. Though, i had deferred the admission till January, 2021.
Please, what is likely the reason for this delay? Can anyone help
