Dear All,

I have immigrant visa which will expire on 14 august 2012 and not done the landing yet, I decided to get marry on June 2012 and hence I have to update my family composition status and return back the passport so they will cancel the visa and include my wife with a new visa, and here are my questions

1-If I get married first then I return back my visa for family composition status update, Will they request to submit a NEW IELTS certificate?

2-I am an electrical engineer and I believe that the Canadian immigration authority stopped requiring any skilled immigrant as electrical engineer!! Will this affect negatively on my application as family composition status update? Will they change their mind and refuse my application for this reason or they may postpone the application till they open the immigration for skilled labor for electrical engineer again?

3-While processing my family composition update application, will they consider me as a new applicant and queue me with the normal applicant? Or I will be queued in my category (family composition update)?

4-How long maximum I may wait till they approve the application for family composition update?

Length of Undertaking
Your obligations as a sponsor begin when your family members enter Canada to remain as permanent residents. The table below will help you determine how long your undertaking will be valid.
Spouse or your common-law or conjugal partner
“Length of undertaking is three years after that person becomes a permanent resident.”

Does that mean she has to wait three years in Canada just to be a PR and this period is excluding from the period required to get the citizenship? Which may take another three years? Thus total will be for example 6 years to be a Canadian citizen?

6-I am Iraqi nationality so which case the immigration department will consider Priority processing for family members in Iraq? Is it for inland? Outland? Or updating the family composition status?

I appreciate any additional comments especially from people who experience this status before

If you haven't done so already - you should post this question to the Skilled Worker section of this forum.

You probably won't receive too many responses here since everyone in this section is in a situation where one person is already a Canadian and is sponsoring their spouse.

The situation you have described is something that applies to individuals going through the Skilled Worker program.

Hope this helps.

No. If you sponsor her, or she is added to your application, she will get a PR visa. Once she lands in Canada she then becomes a permanent resident right then. You agree to support her for three years after she becomes a PR - so this means for the three years after she lands.
