Hi all,

I’m a Canadian citizen and sponsoring my husband to Canada. I got pregnant after we submitted the application and wonder does anyone know the answer to the questions below?

1. should I notify IRCC about my pregnancy now, or after my child is born? Or both?

2. I’m living outside Canada now. do I have to apply citizenship and passport for my child to enter Canada? Or I just add him as the 2nd applicant after he’s born?

3. If I couldn’t get the passport for my child before the landing deadline, can I write to IRCC to request for extension?

Thanks !!

1. You can certainly notify IRCC now however even once born, the child will not be added to the sponsorship application as a dependent. (This is assuming that you obtained your citizenship either through being born in Canada or through naturalization, and not through descent.)

2. Citizenship certificate and passport. Citizenship certificates take a long time so you would apply for a temporary passport.

3. See above. You would apply for a temporary passport. These come much faster.
