United States CPA moving to Vancouver with Fiance

Hello,

My Fiance and I are planning to move to Vancouver, to allow her to go to Medical school in the Summer of 2017. She is a dual citizen ( US and Canada) and I am a United States citizen only. I'm currently employed as a CPA at an international firm in the United States. My fiance and I would be married before moving to Canada. Likely 8 to 9 months prior. I would be applying and testing to work as a Chart. Accountant in Canada.

For immigration and work permit purposes, what would be the most efficient process to be able to move and legally work in Canada? I have read there are exemptions for certain professional trades. Would a spousal sponsorship be approved in an 6-8 month period? What is the best way to go about this?

Any help or experience is greatly appreciated.

Hello,

You are both Canadian citizens. There aren't any immigration, sponsorship, or work permit issues to think about - just get in a car or on a plane and go start a life there any time you want.
There may be other considerations regarding regulated trades/professions (e.g., sitting for an exam, or applying for a professional title, etc.) but that's a different issue.

Re: United States CPA moving to Vancouver with Fianc

Start a sponsorship application from the US once you get married and land in Canada once the paper work are done.

What is the time frame from application to completion to obtain permanent residency, through sponsorship?

Is it true in certain fields (Accounting) it is a more streamlined process to obtain a work permit if you have a job offer?

Thanks for your help

Processing time as oer CIC is 17 months from outside Canada.
You can get a work permit but you need a LIMA.

Thanks for your help.

If I apply for permanent residency, can I apply for an open work permit before moving to Canada? I wouldn't be able to apply for permanent residency until December 2016 (our wedding date) and would need to move to Canada September 2017. Is this time frame possible under any of the current options? What is the time frame im looking at?

You're posting in the wrong section. Move over to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum for more accurate information. If you apply outland (which you should as an American), it's possible it could take as little as four months.

If you are living together for more than 12 months, you can apply for sponsorship anytime you want to.

We are not living together, and will not be living together prior to 12 months. Please let me know how this changes the situation.
In that case you need to get married in order for her to sponsor you - or you must live together continuously for 12 months first. Canada has no fiance sponsorship class. Again, you would be far far better off moving to the Family Sponsorship section of the forum.

CaliforniatoVancouver,

You are missing one very important point, since you are US Citizen, you don't need work authorization to work in Canada, you can work under TN Visa.
