Hi All,
My partner is not able to sponsor me since I wasn't declared on his PR application. It was an honest mistake he had no intention to mislead.. We've been living together for more than 3 years(Aug,2016~present) he got his PR when we had lived for around a year and a half. I was going to apply my PR by being sponsored by him but now that I know of the fact it's impossible to go through the family class, I'm planning to apply it on my own. (my PGWP expires next June)

My question is -
When I apply for my PR through other programs, I think I should declare him as a common law not to misrepresent. Is it possible for him to change his marital status single to common-law now?
I'm confused and worried that it might jeopardize his PR when I process to mine and claim we are common law and it's discovered that he didn't declare that even though he had no idea. I don't to be seen we are lying just want to fix the situation caused by lack of knowledge..

We've filed our taxes as single for the same reason. I'll notify CRA that our status had changed to common-law since 2017. Would this affect the situation either good or bad way?

Thank you for all your advice in advance.

His PR status is fine.

You both need to correct your marital status with CRA.
