So Miguel and I have already submitted our application, for those of you who already know (I feel like we're all buddies on this thing now!), and it's being processed in Buffalo, blah blah blah...

My question is this - on the police certificates, it requires that you give one for every place you've stayed in for 6 months or more. Well, we lived in Barcelona for 11 months, but never registered with the Consular General, so there wouldn't be a record of us being there. We stated this in our application, that we couldn't get a police certificate for that reason. What do y'all think? Would that be an acceptable reason for not providing that information? We overstayed our visa in Europe, which I don't think will be a big deal, but I thought I should mention that...

Surely someone has had a similar experience??

I think they will ask you to get the police certificate from Barcelona any way. Have you overstayed in Spain? they usually do not pay much attention to that, but it can be a strong reason for them to request the police certificate from Spain.

Yes, I overstayed by 9 months, Miguel by 8 months...

Does anyone know how to go about getting a police certificate for a country while you're not in that particular country? As much as I'd loooove to have an excuse to go back to Spain, I can't really afford that on a meager restaurant salary :(

do you have any proof of address you stayed in Spain? it can help for police certificate application.

Yeah, we have a couple of envelopes from things that our friends sent us from the U.S. Also, I think Miguel's bank account is still active there.. would that help us get that info if needed?

Hi

Maybe it would be better if they just followed the instructions here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/europe/spain.asp

I agree. Whether you were there lawfully or not, you were there for 11 months, so you must list your presence there on your application and provide a police certificate.

Ahhh, good to know! I must have missed that part of the application. We have friends that are there still, I wonder if they could fill it out for us. The local way sounds much easier!

Anyway, thanks for your help!

I'm not knowledgeable about Immigration (yet...) but I do know if you can't account for 11 months there will be a problem!
