Hello!

Anyone can assist me with this? I was approved to sponsor my wife on Dec 14. She has a young son, from a previous marriage. When we submitted our applicatio in October, we were very explicit - both in a written letter, and in a note inside the forms - that her son was NOT YET in her sole custody, but soon would be.

She has now won her custody battle, and we are ready to add him to the application. :D

Her application is already 'in process' as of December 31, in Kyiv.

My question is: aside from paying the fees to add her son (I believe $175??) to the application, what do I need to do? send? submit?

Btw.. my sponsor approval letter says "...you have been approved to sponsor ***** ****** and family (if applicable).

Thanks in advance for your timely feedback, all!!

You didn't add her son to the application? What did you put for dependants and number of persons sponsored then?

Hi

You need to contact the VO to change the child to accompanying. The fee is $150. He needs to undergo a medical if he hasn't already done so. You will also need to submit either proof of full custody or permission from the father for the child to immigrate.

Hello there:

We went through similar situation, see below copy of the letter that CIC emailed to us:

A family member* of the principal applicant could be added at a later date, even if they were listed as a non-accompanying dependant in the initial application. However, there is no guarantee that your request to add a family member to an application will be accepted if the final decision has already been made by the office processing the application.

To add a family member to the application, you have to download, fill out, validate and print the following forms** from our website and send them to the Case Processing Centre (CPC) in Mississauga, Ontario:

A new Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking form (IMM 1344) completed by the sponsor,

(If the application is still at the CPC in Mississauga) A new Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008) with supporting documents,

(If you are adding a dependent child of a dependent child) A Financial Evaluation form (IMM 1283) with supporting documents,

and

The add-on request including:
your name,
your client ID number/UCI,
your file number,
a letter of explanation,
a copy of the birth certificate, marriage certificate or proof of common-law relationship, and
if applicable, the proof of payment.

You must write ADD-ON on the forms and the envelope. If you want proof that your application was received, we suggest you use registered mail with Canada Post or a courier service such as Purolator, UPS, FedEx, etc.

*A family member is a spouse, common-law partner, dependent child or dependent child of a dependent child.

**If the newly created family member is a child born in Canada, only the add-on request is required.

Hope it helps

Yes, thank you for your help!

I just recieved a similar email. Seems odd we need to send through Mississauga when I am already approved, and its already in Kyiv. But I will do as instructed.

If the good news/bad news arrives that my wife is approved BEFORE we manage to add her son to the application.. do any of you have any advice on what options we might have to get him here? (aside from the obvious 'go through the whole application again')

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that dependendant/adopted children are process much more quickly: is this true?

It won't be approved before.

No, dependendants do not speed up the process:(
