U.S Resident owning shares in a canadian corporation - Can she come work here

Hi, If someone is a U.S resident, having shares in a Canadian provincial corporation, are they allowed to come here and work on the property owned by the Corporation? Will they require a work visa? What are the probabilities of it being accepted? I am asking this on behalf of someone else...thank you.

No - this wouldn't be allowed without a work visa.

Volunteering (working for no pay) without a work visa is only allowed if the work is something that people are generally not paid to do. Example: volunteering for a charity, volunteering at a church.

People do not typically volunteer their time to corporations. This will definitely be classified as work that people are normally paid to do and consequently a work permit is required.

Thank you. I am trying to prevent this. I am seeing this happening and now you have just confirmed what I was thinking. This person is doing paperwork for the Corporation. She is paying bills, doing banking, etc.... The other shareholder, who is a Canadian resident, does not want her there but she insists that she can because she owns shares in the Corporation.........

Unfortunately she's mistaken.

If she comes without a work permit, she will be working illegally. Having shares in the corporation gives her no rights in Canada.
