Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for this forum. I have spent tons of time reading these but still feel I need to ask my question, so will appreciate any advice.
I landed in Canada on Jan 16, 2012. Since then I have spent about 70 days, visiting every year for about a week or more. My last trip there was in June of 2014. My PR card expires on Feb 28, 2017.
I am a single woman with only my job to support me, so I had decided to not move to Canada without a job, because I would literally have to bank on savings or an emergency withdrawal of my 401K... I have been actively applying to jobs since March of 2014 and have been unable to land an interview.
To resolve this issue, I decided to attend the National Job Fair in Toronto this month. My lease ends in June, so this is my last ditch effort to secure something. However, with the 70 days, I am already missing my residency requirements by a week or so. In an ideal world, I would travel to Canada in the next two weeks, go for the job fair, potentially travel again for interviews and then move by the time my lease expires in June. A move in June would mean I would be a couple of months short of my residency requirements.
Is it a TERRIBLE idea to bank on multiple visits via air or land before moving from the U.S to Canada over the next couple of months? From my understanding, they can report me when I go to the National Job Fair this month since I am already off by a week on my residency requirements.
I really appreciate your advice.
Thanks

Usually if you miss your RO by a couple weeks they won't report you, especially if you can tell them a good reason. I think you are actively looking for a job to settle in Canada which should be a good enough reason, but the most anybody can say right now is your chance of being reported is very low. The only way to make sure not to be reported is to actually meet the RO.

Oh, I should add that entering Canada multiple times w/o meeting the RO is NOT a good idea. Even with mere weeks of missing the RO, you have like 1% chance to get reported for every entrance. It's low but why multiply it?

Thank you zingyDNA!
I understand that multiple visits is a bad idea, but it is reassuring that they may not trouble me much during this visit since I am off by a couple of weeks on my RO and I am actively looking for work.
It's just hard to justify leaving my job here in the U.S for nothing in Canada except for some savings that will run out fairly quickly with the move. Maybe if I get interviews from the career fair (which I have not managed thus far from online applications/ recruiters AND phone calls), I can just initiate the move then and make one trip, instead of coming back and only moving with an offer. The main reason I am considering this move is my job in the U.S is not secure either. Argh, not a good way to live!
Thanks for your advice, I feel a *little* better.... but understand it's still a risk.... I genuinely wish I had a better plan!
