Two work permits simultaneously Open and Close work permit

Currently, I am holding an open work permit(BOWP). My closed work permit is expiring in a month. My employer want to extend my closed workpermit.
I am wondering, by applying to closed work permit extension, will it invalidate my already existing open work permit(BOWP)?

Is it legal to apply for closed work permit extension while holding an open work permit?

1. It is legal, but why bother you have an open work permit, if you get a closed one, it invalidates your BOWP.

Hi is it possible ot extend BOWP as mine expiring in may 2018. Still MY Paper PNP (alberta) based PR application is under processing.
