When I log in to ECAS, it shows two entries for citizenship applications.
Is it normal?

It looks something like this:

Applicant | Citizenship Application Status
JOHN SMITH | Received
JOHN SMITH | In Process

A. When you click on the first link, it says:
"1. We received your payment, along with one or more citizenship applications. To find out how long it takes to process a routine application, please consult the Application Processing Times."

B. When you click on the second link, it says:
"1. We received your application for Canadian citizenship (grant of citizenship) on March __, 2014.

2. We sent you a letter acknowledging receipt of your application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada on March ___, 2014. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.

We started processing your application on May ___, 2014."

Is this normal to have these two entries?

Yes that's the norm. At a later stage the Received line disappears and you'll have just the one link to see details of your status.

Yep this is quite normal. When cic sydney receive payment and start processing of application everybody get these two entries in their eCAS. As per my observation once background checks are complete or file is transfered to Local office 'received' line disappear from eCAS.
