Hello,

I have a question that I can't find an answer to.

My husband has been an international student in Canada for the past ten years. Recently, his application for Permanent Residency was accepted and he landed in June 2016.

I've been told vaguely by some people that he can now get some of the tuition he paid as an international student back. Does anyone know how that would work? I've been looking all over the internet for the answer to this. By the way, he is still a student.

Any comment would help!

Thanks!

He'll be able to pay domestic tuition going forward. However I've never heard of anyone getting money refunded. If anyone was refunding this money it would have to be his university. So you can certainly reach out to them to ask.

I don't think he will get the money back he paid as an international student after getting PR. I have never heard about this.

He might be eligible for tax return, but check with someone who works on tax. Also if he was in the middle of a semester when his status changed, depending on the deadline for status change of the university he might be eligible for refund for that particular semester only (given tuition is paid on per semester basis).
