I am sponsoring my wife who is a Vietnamese citizen, and submitted the PRV application in mid June. I would like to have my wife apply for a TRV so she can visit while we wait for the PRV approval.

I have read the guide from Immigration regarding the ability to apply for a TRV with "dual intent".

I am aware of the criteria for TRV approval, in particular the difficult one of demonstrating that the applicant will return on expiry of the visa. I've read a number of posts suggesting that it is very difficult to get a TRV if you have a PRV in progress, out of concern that the applicant will simply stay on, if the PRV is not approved. I've read other posts, where people have successfully got TRVs in Thailand; presenting the "approval" for sponsorship of the PRV appeared to be a factor that helped, presumably because it demonstrates financial capability for support of the sponsor.

Does anyone have any experience with applying for a TRV from HCM City while the PRV was in progress?

Thanks....

No, it can't be because of the proof of ability to support the applicant, because you can be approved as a sponsor with no job and no income.

Don't bother trying to prove dual intent. The visa officer may apply this rule, but bringing it to his attention won't help. The best way to get a TRV is to prove that the applicant will leave Canada before the visa expires. Leaving a kid at home will help; having a job, and getting a letter from the boss granting a 2-week vacation (or whatever) will help; being enrolled in school, with receipts for paid-up classes that start after the supposed return date, and a letter from the school saying the student has been granted a 2-week leave (or whatever); a house or apartment lease; money in the bank; etc. A letter from the applicant stating she has applied for a PR visa and understands she has to be back at home to receive instructions from the visa office and to attend the interview may help, too, but it won't be enough.

CanadianWoman,

Thank you...all good suggestions for improving the chances of a TRV being approved.....unfortunately not many applicable to my wife's situation.

As indicated in my original post, I've read posts on this board of people who have been successful in obtaining a TRV from Thailand while a PRV is in progress and wondered if anyone has had been either successful or unsuccessful with the same process in Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City).
