TRV Visitor Record Question

I've read that we can only apply for a TRV extension (visitor record) at least a month (30 days) before the day we need to leave the country.

What if I get my TRV approved for only 3 weeks? Could I still apply for a visitor record to extend my stay?

Has anybody had similar experiences? Anybody tried to apply for a visitor record even if their TRV's length was under a month?

Thanks

Your TRV does not generally impose a length of stay - that happens at the border. If you are admitted to the country, unless the CBSA officer writes in your passport or stamps in your passport a shorter time, you are permitted to stay for 6 months. You can enter Canada on the last day of a valid TRV and stay for six months in many cases.

If what you are saying is that your TRV itself expires in 3 weeks (the counterfoil in your passport) you cannot extend that. You must either travel to Canada within those three weeks OR apply for a new visa.
