Hi my niece has come on a multi entry visa from Costa Rica to visit. She wants to study here on a study permit, I want to know does she have to apply Outland for this? Also she will have to extend her visit because the 6 months is up in April and she plans to study in September. Any advice or anything we should know for when we proceed?

She can remain in Canada but it is processed outland. She needs to show her own funds, strong ties to home country, career opportunities in home country, expanding on her education. It is more challenging to be approved because she needs to show strong ties and if she is in Canada for a long period o time that lessens her ties.

thank you for your response,

her main goal is to get a pgwp after her studies and then apply for pr. We just need the guidance for her to reach these goals, her English isn't great at the moment, but she is taking a small course to improve.

The application needs to be processed by a visa office outside of Canada. She will have a higher chance of being approved if she applies while in Costa Rica rather than while visiting Canada. But her choice of course.

To be approved, she or her parents will need to show a bank balance of at least $25,000 to cover tuition and first year living expenses. She will also need to make sure that her studies in Canada make sense in light of her previous education and any work experience. Her planned studies in Canada should show a progression of studies.

Stay away from all private colleges and universities. Pick a public college or university.

But to get a study permit, she must address what I posted above not wanting to immigrate. She will need to take IELTS too. What is she going to do until September? Does she have any post-secondary education? If a teen, she should look at applying to universities to show that she is a genuine student.

She is currently taking a small course in English, her English level is only 1 right now so she is trying to improve that for when she takes the IELTS and applies for a study permit. Do any of you know a good lawyer that can guide us with this process?

Check with the schools she wants to attend for minimum IELTS scores. How long is the course? Not sure why you need a lawyer but contact the moderators of this forum - Cohen. Link on top.
