Greetings all,

I'm currently in a bit of a pickle and would like to know if anyone can be of assistance.

I was granted a TRV earlier this year and it is valid until May next year. I just got back from a 2 month stay in Ontario and am planning on returning early next year, as my partner - herself a Canadian citizen - and I would like to start building a life together and working toward marriage. As such, my intention is to stay for more than six months, but this conflicts with the May visa expiry.

Hence, I'm wondering whether it's possible to apply for a new TRV while in possession of an existing TRV? There doesn't seem to be much info regarding this on the net. Should this be possible, under what conditions would it be deemed acceptable to do so?

Should it not be possible, what course of action would you recommend given the circumstances? Like I said, I intend on visiting early next year and staying for more than six months, but my existing TRV is only valid until May. How best can I work around this dilemma? Would it be possible to apply for a new TRV from within Canada? Would I have to leave the country and apply from outside Canada once my TRV has expired?

Just in case: I'm South African and will likely not be in possession of a valid study/work permit at the time mentioned above.

Please help clarify!

Kind regards,
Thomas
