TRV extend or re-entry?

Hi my wife entered Canada on Feb 10 2015, so her TRV is valid through Aug 10 2015.

We have an US trip planned for Aug 6 and returning on Aug 10.

Should we apply for extension or is it fine since we are leaving before the expiry and re-entering. Can someone provide some advice please?

TRV validity and date of entry are not related at all. What is valid until August 10 is your visitor status.

In paper it is perfectly fine what you are doing as the Visitor Status is expiring on your trip and when re-entering you have to be granted more time in Canada, no extension is required.

Due to the dates this would look highly suspicious that you are just getting off the country to get an additional 6 months without going through the correct process. CBSA doesn't like those kind of attitudes. I would recommend applying for an extension, and getting it before you depart for your trip, this will add in your case making it obvious that the trip was not planned to skip processes, that you have been allowed to stay in Canada longer and that you have done everything in your part to be trustworthy.
