TRV after pgwp

I got my pgwp recently but my TRV with study permit expires November 2026, and i only got my 2 yrs of PWGP due to my passport expiry condition. Should i apply for TRV now or i can do it later? I dont have any immediate plans to travel outside canada right now. If i can do it later, does it matter when? I dont want to get only 2 yrs of TRV and apply again for another after i apply for PGWP extension. Please advice

If you apply without updated passport then you get it until expiry. If you have no plans on leaving Canada for a few years then don't apply until you have updated passport.

Are you planning on renewing your passport soon? If not I would suggest applying for the TRV. We see many people who have a family emergency for example or do decide to travel for some reason and it can take quite a while to get a TRV so they either get stuck abroad or can’t leave Canada because they won’t be able to return. 10 year multiple entry TRVs are no longer the default so you may only end up with a TRV valid for a short period of time.

The big issue is that if you do have to
leave Canada but don’t have a valid TRV then you can get stuck abroad for quite a while and you will lose out on Canadian work experience time. That could have significant implications for PR of even result in job loss if stuck abroad for up to months.
