Hello,

I would appreciate it if someone could help answer my questions. I am a US citizen looking to apply for a temporary resident permit because I'm criminally inadmissible to Canada and must wait 3 more years before applying for criminal rehabilitation. Pending a long term (1-3years) TRP is granted, I have the following questions:

1. Can a TRP allow me to cross the border back and forth? I'm looking to live in Canada while I commute to work in the US.
2. Will a TRP allow me to apply for an Ontario Health card?

1. No.
2. No. As a TRP holder, you'll still only be a visitor in Canada. Visitors don't qualify for OHIP.

Thank you for replying scylla.

1. I did some research online and read there are TRPs that allow multiple entries. Is there any truth to that?
2. On the ministry of health website, it says a person may be eligible if, "you hold a Temporary Resident Permit with case type 80 (for adoption only), 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 94 or 95;" I was hoping I could fall into one of the case type and would appreciate it if anyone has more information with regards to different case type.

Anyone have information or experience to share? I would definitely like to know how people with a long term (1-3yrs) temporary resident permit deal with health benefits in Ontario.

Because of your criminal inadmissibility I do not believe you can qualify for a trp

Those case types are for those with PR applications in progress or with PR applications that were refused.
