I recently had major problems at the border, and wonder if anyone can give me any advice.

I travelled down from Calgary through Coutts/Sweetgrass POE, whilst still on a 6 month visitor status to Canada from the UK. On the US side i was grilled for several hours on my reasons for entering the States. My son of 14 years old was taken off on 2 occasions for questioning by 2 separate Officers. This was done without either my knowledge, presence or consent..is that legal??

Yes - it's legal.

Thank you very much for the response Scylla, i wasn't sure with him being a minor.

I've had more memorable days, and wont be in a rush to go back!!

Yes - I don't blame you. I'm sure it was an extremely stressful situation.

Let me guess. The OP didn't have proof of sole custody of the child or a notarized letter from the other parent allowing the child to travel? Child Abduction is what the USBS was probably interested in.
