Travelling to Home country when WP has expired but extension is filed...HELP

Hello all,

My WP is expiring on 14th of Oct 2012. My WP extension was filed on 27th Aug 12; no status though yet. I am told that my WP extension letter would be available by end of Oct.

I need to travel to my home country because of family exigencies.

I have an option of travelling either:

1. Going On Sep end and come back to Canada by 10th of Oct. However with just 4 days remaining on my Visa and WP I have been told that I will have problems entering Canada. Gurus has anyone been in this situation. Will it be a problem to enter Canada? How can I convey to the CA immigration that I have a WP filed? Please help.

OR

2. Going on Oct 10th and return by Oct end. However I will not have any visa or WP then. Will I be able to enter Canada on the premise that my WP extension has been filed? Is there a way to convey to the Canada Immigration that my WP extension has been filed. Will I have to wait in my home country till I get my WP extension letter in hand?

Are you from a non visa exempt country? Meaning - do you need a visa to enter Canada? If so - then #2 definitely won't work because no airline will let you board their plane without a valid visa.

I require Visa to come to Canada. Hence I cannot come with a WP extension in progress. However if I come say 4 days before my visa expires will that be a problem. Please reply.

I would not take such a risk but the decision is yours. You can also wait until you get the permit before leaving. Surely whatever it is, a few days being late won't be the end of the world?

Did you travel outside the country on the dates specified, I have a similar situation wherein I will come before 4 days of the expiration of my visa while WP extension is in progress. It will be very helpful if you can let us know of your experience.

Hi All,

I did travelled and returned back to Canada, and I returned roughly 10 days before my visa (TRV) and Work Pertmit were to expire. This led to quite a few questions at the immigration, but I had carried along with myself printouts of my Work Permit extension filed. This proved helpful. Moreover, I explained to the officer the urgency under which I had to travel. He was satisfied and wrote the words implied on the back of Work Permit.

I got a great advice from the officer too. He said that the fee receipt of the WP extension filed is the definitive proof of filing the extension. Hence, advised me to get the same and keep with myself if I need to travel back again.
