Hi Guys,

I landed in Toronto yesterday. The procedure is quite simple. Now on account of some reasons, I am moving to Edmonton, AB. I would be happy, if you could help me with the following.

1. Which will be the best (economical) flight to Travel to ?

2. What is the baggage allowance for Domestic Travel ? Actually, I paid C$ 150 for excess once and second time, I wish, I could be granted exemption.

3. Which is the most economical way to Cargo my luggage from ON to AB and what would be the avg. costing ?

4. How will Edmonton as a place be ?

Please through some focus on this.

Thanks,

M

You can check the prices of Air Canada and Westjet. I see Westjet has flights from $169 one way. Their website is http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/home.shtml They allow 2 checked in bags of 23 kg each and 2 carry on of 10 kg each but size restrictions apply on both, see http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/travelInfo/baggageInformation/checkedAndExcessBaggage.shtml and http://www.westjet.com/guest/en/travelInfo/baggageInformation/carryOnBaggage.shtml

If you go with Air Canada, http://www.aircanada.com/en/home.html you can also find tickets starting at $169 but you are better off buying round trip with them. You do not have to use the ticket back to Toronto. Baggage info here: http://www.aircanada.com/en/travelinfo/airport/baggage/index.html seems to be similar to Westjet but more restrictions on carry on.

As for shipping stuff, I have heard a lot of horror stories about Canadian movers who lose your stuff or hold it hostage for a bill way higher than what was originally agreed on. Actually happened to a friend of mine. If you only have a few boxes, you can send it through surface mail. You could also consider renting a car and packing all your stuff into it. You will see a lot of Canada as you drive.

Edmonton is a lot smaller than Toronto and a lot less diverse but the people are friendly and not so much in a hurry. When looking for apartments, if you are not sure about the neighbourhood, just visit a grocery store or a gas station nearby and ask them if it is safe there. If you are in an area where most of the businesses are pawn shops and liquor stores, it is probably not a good neighbourhood ;)

Dear Leon,

Deepest gratitude for all the assistance and guidance.

You have always been the most detailed and helpful.

Thanks buddy :)

For renting apparment , www.boardwalk.com This Rental firm has appartments in all parts of Edmonton. See that you choose apparment near to your office ,shopping center,ETS bus stop . As you now winter is harsh in Edmonton, So dont even think you can walk 5 mins to these places , 5 mins are too much in winter .

Hope this helps :)
