My question is:
If I apply now for my husband to come to Canada, will I be able to travel back to Canada in May for a couple of months? I don't know the application process (or timeline) and I heard things about them wanting the sponsors passport.
Also what does SA stand for??
Thanks in advance.

sa = sponsor approval

if you are a canadian citizen you can be in canada or anywhere in the world and send in an application to sponsor your spouse as a pr. all cic cares about are your intentions on resettling in canada as soon as the pr application is approved. there are no restrictions on canadian citizens traveling during the process.

if you are a pr, then you MUST reside/live in canada while the entire application is processing. you are free to travel on short vacations/business trips, you just need to be careful about being out of canada for an extended period of time while the entire application is processing.

Thanks, I had found out what SA meant right after I posted the question.

However, I am currently living in Egypt, I will be applying Outland for my husband as he is not allowed to 'visit' Canada (hence the reason I am living here and not in Canada).

That's fine as long as you are a Canadian citizen. You'll need to include proof of your intention to return to Canada in your application, though.

If you're a Canadian PR, as rhcohen2014 mentioned, you need to move back to Canada before you may apply to sponsor for your husband.

Also, to answer your original question, they don't usually ask for the sponsor's passport (only the non-Canadian's passport is requested to place the visa counterfoil in it).
