Hi guys,

I landed at carway on July 19th 2014 and I am waiting for my PR card. The officer lady told me that I am unable to travel for the next 2-3 months until the card arrives. I checked the processing time website. It had 21 days two weeks ago and is now with 28 days.

My problem is that I have an upcoming vacation to Mexico starting September 10th. This is 1 month from now and if everything goes well, the PR card arrives before that. However I can't rely on chances for this.

A question to the seniors. I am visa exempt. Does a travel restriction still apply for me? If yes, is there a way to get a travel permit in a timely manner?

Thanks guys and cheers

You might be able to enter iyou are driving into Canada since you are from a visa exempt country. But taking a flight back will be hit or a miss because most airlines ask for PR card if you tell them you are a PR of Canada.

Hey, I am not so worried about the airline as I could always tell them I am visiting Canada. I was only asked once if I am a PR when flying from Miami to Canada. I am more concerned about the immigration officer as I surrendered all my work permits.

you my want to look into temporary travel document while you wait for PR

You could travel to Buffalo airport and then take a bus if you think you cannot get a travel document in time.

Express processing is only available for renewals. First time PR cards are normal processing only

If you read other threads, visa exempt passport holders will have no problem entering Canada even if you don't have a PR card or it is still for renewal.
