Hello,

My PR application got Accepted at the beginning of May but I haven't received my PR card yet. I might have to travel to the UK at the end of July so I got a travel document. Does anyone know if there is gonna be a problem with me returning with a Refugee Travel Document but no PR Card?

Thanks

Shouldn't be so long as you aren't a refugee FROM the UK LOL

Well, the back of the document says" To enter Canada, the bearer must provide supplementary evidence of permanent resident status as established by Canadian immigration authorities"

Which made me think that it could be a problem with airlines since I don't have my pr card yet. Especially since I don't expect things to go very smoothly in the U.K.( like with people who got lucky and their destination country treated their document like a Canadian passport because they didn't know much about it)

I would suggest you carry some other formal document then, or a copy of it such as your COPR or something of that nature. The Travel document you have is supposed to allow you reentry into Canada as it is essentially like having a visa counterfoil attached to your passport. So again, I don't see why you should have any issues. Make sure you have a photo id as well because that will be necessary.

Thanks, I will try to take a copy of whatever I have just in case. Hopefully that will be enough if I run into any problems.

1. To clarify have you now been landed or do you mean you have applied for PR as a refugee and the application has been accepted with status as 'processing'?

2. You must apply for a UK visa. This requires the submission of bio data including finger prints at select Visa Application Centers in Canada. If you are not near one of the regional VAC's there are mobile clinics but again these are limited and appointments often fill up in advance. I think your July timeline is optimistic if you need to go via a mobile clinic. Visa applications from refugees are referred to the UKBA in London for further checks. Have you claimed asylum in any EU country? I think you will have difficulty with the visa application without a valid PR card and may have to explain your situation backed up with the original COPR if landed.

3. Once the visa is approved it enables you to travel to the UK and seek admission. UKBA border agent will have final decision on entry but you will get finger printed. Your travel document may be retained at the airport to ensure your compliance and exit from the UK.

4. If your UK entry is in relation to transit you may find an alternative EU airport in mainland Europe less hassle visa wise e.g. Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich etc

1.I have landed and was told to wait 6-8 weeks for the PR card, but seeing as the average processing time online have been rising and it's at 94 days now, I am not very optimistic about the estimation I was given in my landing interview.

2.I am close enough to make a trip to the Visa Center in Toronto. I am going to support my application with my COPR and hopefully that will help speed things up(my country of origin has good relations with the UK, no transit visa and visit visas are processed within 15 days, though I dunno if that will work for or against me). Also, I haven't claimed asylum anywhere besides Canada.

3.As long as that doesn't result in any complications I guess that's fine.

4.It's not for a transit, it's sort of the halfway point my family decided on to meet each other.

1. Congrats just a formality.

2. You can be close but check the appointment schedule.

3. You are travelling on a non national document so the checks and restrictions will in addition to those for your country of citizenship be extra such as no transit without visa waiver etc. Most immigration authorities have an 'once an asylum seeker' and they have a concern of another claim being made although the biometric regime has cut multiple claims down.

4. UK Visa form enquires as to your relations and if they are part of the application journey (the form makes the Canadian equivalent version feel like a simple crossword). There will be cross referencing at some point but if you can prove you are not a risk for overstaying then all good...comes down to your Canadian ties read if you have a decent job, property etc that will compel you to return. I think your hardest sell is the UKBA accepting the COPR...to many forgeries and they may decide not to take the risk.

Thanks a lot for the info, I will try to see if I can start things early. I will also look into other more lenient countries, just in case I run into some problems or the visa application gets delayed/rejected.
