Innosense, The Visitor extension does not get extended when you come back into Canada. I have had them remind me of the expiration date when I came back in, they did not give me 6 months they gave me the date of my extension expiring which at that time was something liked 9 months.

Thanks CMLR. So after we get visitor extension , we can travel in and out of Canada multiple times until the extension expiration date.

I ask this because if I travel out , I would hate the lose the extension ( in case I get a year ) and have only 6 months from date of entry.

A visitor extension does not allow for re-entry. If you leave to say, India, you won't be able to return without a new entry visa. The only country you can leave to and then return on your visitor extension would be say, the USA. The scenario that CMLR is talking about ONLY relates to going to the US, not other countries.

I think it may also apply to Saint Pierre and Miquelon.

Hmmm.. I do have a valid visa to re enter until 2016. my question is how long can i stay. what if i go to India for 4 weeks with 9 months remaining in my extension. when i am allowed back in, can i stay for remaining 8 months or its only 6 ?

I could not say for sure that a person who leaves Canada could come back in with the extension I can only say what I have been able to do and yes I am a US citizen so that can make a big difference in some cases.

Is your Visa a multiple entry visa then? I wonder if that helps, I don't know someone else wold know maybe who has come from a country outside of the US.

Thanks for sharing all your experiences.
Yes I have a multiple entry visa.

Yes I have a multiple entry visa.

If you leave the country for any other destination other than USA or Saint Pierre and Miquelon then your extension is now invalid. You would be treated as a 'new' visitor upon arrival in Canada and as such you would be subject to their examination and whether they want to let you back into the country. A multiple entry visa does not guarantee entry, it only allows you to try.

As was stated before, the visitor extensions are usually only 'valid' to a visa exempt individual or to someone who has only traveled to the US or Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Based on the information you have provided you are not visa exempt and you would also need a visa to travel to the US. If you leave the country and you have an ongoing INLAND application and are refused re-entry, then your application becomes void and it will be refused. You would then have to prepare a new application and send it in for OUTLAND processing.

If you are currently doing the OUTLAND processing, there is no danger to your application if you leave Canada and are refused re-entry. Your application will proceed as normal.
