I am planning to take my professional exam in US in a month or two.

I understand that many people would tell me its not guaranteed to be able to come back hence jeopardize application itself.

Im just wondering if I should contact Border Angency or CIC to confirm this issue ? or Anything i should do to lower the risk in case of crashing into an ashhole officer and get denied ?

Please share your experience ;)

contacting cic or cbsa isn't going to guarantee you anything. first, cic handles immigration, not customs, so they will have no say as to what a cbsa agent will do when you attempt to reenter. second, cbsa isn't going to be able to tell you what is going to happen when you show up at the border, as crossings are always dependant on the officer you meet at the border.

if you have a pr application submitted, bring ALL information with you to show them at the crossing. (ie: correspondence from cic about your app, fees paid, copy of medical exam, marriage certificate, copies of forms, etc.) they will look up the application in the system, will probably not give you an issue, and let you through. if you have an inland application - yes, your application will be cancelled if you are dened re-entry. remember, any implied status you have will be lost as soon as you leave canada.

Hey thanks for reply !

I am not using implied status but instead applied for 1 year visitor visa. You think that will prevent them to deny my entry ?
I am also from visa exempt country

no, i *think* if you already have approval to be there for a future date through a visitor's extension, then they will honor it and let you in. i'm not totally 100% on that, though it seems to be consistent with other people's experiences on this forum.

ottawa has started fast tracking applications, so most us applicants from march, april and may have received approvals. currently it's taking 3 mo. for us outland applicants to get approved. no one knows why this is happening, what the cause is, or how long it will continue.

Amazingsho, I have an inland application going and I have left Canada twice since it went in, and will be going out again. These things were planned before the application went in and are family things I do not feel I can back out of. Because I have read this forum I have been nervous each time coming back in, however I have had no problems. I do have a 1 year extension on my visitor status and one time when I came in the Boarder Guard referred to it asking if I knew when it expired. I always have with me my copy of both applications, Spouse and Sponsor as well as Marriage License and proof that I have submitted the application. I have never been asked to show anything, except the time I got my visitor extension they wanted to see my marriage license. It has not been an issue for me so far and after next month I do not have to go back hopefully until I am landed.

I did ask my immigration consultant, who has been a consultant for about 20 years, if this would be a problem since we are inland applicants. She told me that the chances of getting denied are always small for an American and that having an application in does not make it more of a chance, something I thought might be the case but glad it isn't. If they have no other reasons to deny you it is very unlikely that they would just because you have an application going. That being said I still do make sure and have everything with me just in case..... Good Luck

I know I am more worried this next time as I am bringing a puppy back with me and I know they will need to see the info on the puppy's health. I am keeping my fingers crossed and lots of prayers as well.

again, calling cbsa isn't going to confirm anything. the officer on the phone may say one thing, and the officer you actually meet at the border can say something completely different. unfortunately, the officer at the border isn't going to care what someone on the phone "told you", and will make a determination based on their own opinion in the moment.

thanks for the well wishes. i hope inland starts moving soon too!

oh... hahaha... well then, best of luck! fingers crossed for you!

Puppy will have health records but I assume the boarder guards will want to look over them closely or something. I am just not sure what to tell them I mean she is considered mine by my spouse so is she coming to live or visit, if they ask those things. Never brought a pet across before so I have no idea.

Rhcohen..... Less than a week for you to go til landing.... YAY for you!!!! best of wishes for your future as it begins.

Ive never brought my dog cross boarders so I cant tell. All I heard about pet cross boarder is when my cousin took his dog from London to HK few years back. It cost him about 6000 brit pounds and 2 weeks of observation in facility for the poor dog. Maybe there is some special arrangement between US - CA so I guess it shouldnt be as harsh as my cousin's

If the puppy is over 1 year make sure he/she has shot record for Rabies.

If puppy is just a baby, then a simple health record from your vet should be sufficient to allow puppy in without trouble. They don't usually ask if puppy is coming to live or just visiting. Just when you cross the border, mention you have your puppy with you. They may or may not even ask to see anything in regards to puppy.

I have traveled back and forth between US and Canada multiple times before and after becoming a PR with my dog. The only issue I ever encountered was trying to bring her food in a container that was not a sealed bag. They didn't like that and took it away from me. LOL

Good luck! :D

If you get a visitor extension for lets say a year and then you travel out of canada and re-enter. does that extension for 1 year hold good ? or does it get reset and its 6 months from date of entry ?
