Hey everyone. I wasnt sure where to post this. My situation is complicated but the short question is, I want to travel to the states and my PR card has been cancelled (it was lost and found). What can I show the American Border officials proof of my PR? I am looking at getting a bus to the states. Alternatively, if I fly what documents are needed to show the border there? I will return to Canada by private means (either car or foot - CoPR is accepted at this point in lieu of PR Card).
Here is the rest of the complication:
I lost my Canadian PR Card when I was overseas but found it at home, after applying for a PRTD document to return on the plane to get back to Canada.
I received a letter with my visa saying my card was cancelled so when I return to Canada by border I know I can show my CoPR letter and Passport.
However, my main concern is what to show the American Border??
Assuming they will not accept a cancelled PR card, or does it not matter?
The CoPR letter has in big letters "not a valid travel document" but my understanding this refers to it not being a passport.
Also, from my understanding, losing a PR Card or not carrying it on you does not mean you are not PR. My concern as I said is showing that to the American Border officials.
I have Canadian PR using my Australian Citizenship but my Aussie passport has recently expired.
My UK is valid.
If anyone can shed any light this will be greatly appreciated. I am feeling rather anxious. Even filling out an ESTA so it makes it easier at the border (although I know only needed when flying) is complicated because I cannot put my recent employer as I am now self employed as a (broke) actress, unless I put previous employment.
Thanks in advance!!
