I am canadian permanent resident. I was TR before. I got PR status on March 4, 2021.

Days out of canada- December 22, 2021 and returned to canada January 31, 2022.

Now out of canada since august 6, 2023, is it ok if i stay out of canada for another 6-7 months.

Is there going to be any effect on my PR Status.

PR card valid till August 2026. @scylla

You need to live in Canada for 730 days out of every 5 rolling years to keep your PR status. You'll need to do the math based on your travel plans to see where you stand.

No, the 730 days does not need to be continuous.

@scylla I applied for my brother’s visitor visa from India and I am currently in India and reason for visitor visa was my depression, I am alone and I need brother to be with me and ongoing divorce proceedings in canada, visitor visa for my brother is refused. I am just concerned, would they revoke my PR too? Every document was genuine. Also, when I go back to canada after year and half, is immigration going to question why I stayed for too long in India? I’m meeting 730 days requirement.

As long as you abide by RO, I dont see any issues with your PR Status.

Are you working while abroad or were you working before leaving for India? For example if you were receiving EI while abroad you shouldn’t be. Do you have a home in Canada (lease or own)? If you are abroad for over 7 months you no longer qualify for healthcare in most provinces and would need to reapply when you return and start from scratch and meet the residency requirement for the 1st year having provincial healthcare again. You will need to look into the residency requirement for your home province. If you expecting on remaining abroad for an extended period of time I would also be contacting CRA because you residency and tax residency status may change. CRA can determine these things. You don’t want to receive money from the government that you will have to pay back.
